Necrons Part 1

So the last 3 to 4 weeks I have been doing a bit of work on my Tyranids while at the same time trying to find something new to paint. I tried painting ogres last November, even have a bunch of stuff for them but I 100% can't get into the idea of playing Fantasy. Last weekend I tried doing up some Marines (Imperial Fists). I managed to get the bodies done on 5 of them in two days only to realize how much I hate painting Marines. Part of it is because its basically 100% the same painting style as my Dark Eldar, except bigger models with way more pieces. I also tried some Orks at the start of April with the new paints and I just couldn't get into it and the idea of painting 100+ of them made me want to commit suicide.

So, where does that leave me? I dont want to do something super nit pickey like the Dark Eldar (aka Marines) or horde intensive like the Tyranids (aka Orks) and I can't will myself to get into Fantasy. So after seeing this blog post (http://taleofpainters.blogspot.ca/2011/12/tutorial-painting-rusty-necron-armour.html) on one of my fave sites I decided I would give it a try. So here is my first attempt:

I apologize for the quality of picture as it was taken with my iPhone. Overall I am really happy with how it is turning out. The best part is not only is it looking decent (well, in my opinion lol) and it is super fast and very fun to do. Next up I am going do up some chipped paint for the main armor plates (shadow grey) and then I am going to paint the green glow for the eyes/weapons. The bases are also going to be a Mars red earth base (fairly simple) to match the rust and dust on the Necrons themselves. Fingers crossed that this works lol. More pics with my actual camera tomorrow or Monday of the finished models.

Update:

I did a bit more work on my main test model trying out new things (as I have literally never painted like this before). For the most part I am super happy with how he is turning out. I went out of my way to do virtually no edge high lighting and just let the chipped metal do the work. This was also my first attempt at object source lighting which is *okay*, not 100% happy with it and I know I can do better.

Tervigon Finished!

Man, I love it when work slows down. This weekend was totally dead so I was able to get in a good 16-ish hours of work on the Old Tervigon. In total this guy took about 20-22 hours, the same as my first Trygon. Only thing is I pretty much rushed this guy were as the Trygon I actually brown washed the whole model and went back and re-high-lighted a second time to get an even nicer finish. Here he is in all his finished glory (well...except the base which is still a WIP lol).

Just to give you an idea on how big this model is I did a comparison shot with it and my converted Tervigon. As you can see they arent even close as the official model is almost twice the height as the one I built. I still feel really good about the one I built as it is super close to the official model. I used the large base, it has spine banks for its cluster spines on its shoulders, egg sacs hanging from below. The only thing I like about mine more is that it has small "manipulator" arms instead of scything talons (its front arms are for walking only) but the official model you ONLY have the option for Scything Talons. Kind of sucks as I would never take that upgrade for this unit and I wish there was a 3rd set of arms (like small hands or useless arms like on the Mawloc) to use. Maybe I will just do up the smallest set of Mawloc Scything Talons to put in its place. Anyways, here they are :)

Next Up: I started working on the Ymgarls over the weekend as well so hopefully I will be able to finish the last part of my Ymgarls articles and get some good shots of the unit when its done.

Tervigon WIP #2!

So I managed to get some more time in today (about 6 hours worth). I 100% finished the main body and started working on the legs (just dark brown so no pics). Unless something crazy happens I will have this monstrosity done by the end of the weekend with pics on Monday. Also going to include some comparison pics with the other monsters to help give a size of scale since it is massive.

The Reg Stikes Back!

 The Wolf vs The Lion!

Game 2 between Regicide and I was initially going to be another game of Guard vs Wolves but we decided to do something different and play the Lion vs the Wolf.  We played another 1000 pt game so that we could get the game in during the evening without losing too much sleep.  The listed looked something like this.

Belial with lighting claws

Troops
Terminator Command Squad with Medic, Cyclone, Standard bearer, 3 x LC, 2 x TH/SS
Terminator Squad with

Fast Attack
3 x Bikes with 2 x Meltaguns and power fist

The Wolf (Big Willie)

Bjorn with plasma cannon

Troops
10 x Grey Hunters with 2 x Meltaguns, power weapons in Rhino
10 x Grey Hunters with 2 x Meltaguns, power weapons in Rhino
10 x Grey Hunters with 2 x Meltaguns, power weapons in Rhino

Heavy Support
4 x Long Fangs (2 x Plasmacannons, 1 x Missile launcher)

We played table quarters and kill points with Reg getting the first turn.

Tervigon WIP #1

So...my horrible Tyranid addiction continues. I managed to get my hands on both of the new kits (Tervigon and Hive Tyrant) and I gotta say that they are easily two of the best kits that GW produces. I sadly put the Ymgarls on hold after seeing the new Tervigon as I HAVE to paint it so the last part of my 3 part series is still coming, just slightly delayed.

The first thing I started working on was the main body of the creature, specifically the Egg sacs. I ended up putting in close to 5 hours in total only because I was trying something new which really didnt work so I ended up redoing an entire side. Overall I am really happy with how its going and I am still deciding if I want to leave it as is or if I want to do some work to make it look like the Termagants are popping out (like the mebrane of the egg sac is somewhat translucent). Hopefully soon I will be able to get some more progress pics (just started on the brown) and I also am going to do a comparison shot of GWs Tervigon and my conversion (trust me...mine is WAY smaller lol).

Big Willie is Back Baby!!!

Master of the Ravenwing and his Libraian dismantle the remaining guardsmen

Hello all,

It's taken some time but I've finally gotten the awful taste of my last tournament game out of my mouth and managed to get in a couple games with the newest Legionnaire Regicide.  The initial intent was to play a series of games where the Dark Angels were looking for several of the Fallen who had taken over the government of a local planet.  In the end we played one game then switched to Wolves vs Dark Angels (almost like one of the Space Wolf books).  We used my iPhone to take pictures so unfortunately they won't be as good as we all like.  The first game was my Ravenwing against his Imperial Guard at 1000 pts.  The lists looked something like this:

Legio Minimus welcomes Regicide!

Hello All,

I've just gotten back from a course that started in Sept.  The highlight was meeting someone that is going to be a new contributing Legionnaire.  He's been playing 40k for a long time but took a break for a while but kept up with the goings on through the Black Library.  We managed to get 2.5 games in during the course so those battle reports will be coming along shortly.  I look forward to seeing his models and painting as much as his short stories and narratives.   Stay tuned!
