Night Scythe Complete!

A quick little update before I post the second part of my Tournament recap. I finished this about 3 weeks ago and I finally got around to taking some pictures for it. I am currently leaving all the OSL off the rest of the Necron models with the intention of going back over them once the army is complete and doing everything in one unified pass. I will be doing the same thing with the basing.  Not much left now though as I just need to finish 2 Annihilation Barges, 3 Tomb Blades, a Ghost Ark and my Lord! Can't Wait!

Welcome to 6th Edition...The Tournament!

Over the weekend I attended a great little tournament at my local game store (Imaginary Wars). The tournament was on the smaller side with only 14 people attending and despite the low-ish number it was one of the more competitive tournaments I have been to in ages. All the armies were painted really well and there were tones of variation in the armies that showed up.

First Batch of Warriors Finished!

While I am working on fixing up the photos for the tournament over the weekend I thought it would be a good time to put up a pick of my first 5 Warriors. I wanted the green rods to tie into the army more then just the bare green, so I decided to paint them up to look like the rest of the green. One thing I have still been debating is putting on the object source lighting (OSL) on all the green weapons (which I 95% think I will do). What I am going to do is wait till I have the army painted to the point where I can play then I will go back over it and do the OSL for everything in one shot so it as a consistent and unified look.

Despair Cryptek Complete!

Here is my second Cryptek. He has a Staff of Light and the torso from a Deathmark to simulate the Veil of Darkness. I decided to make this one a bit more spindly and put him on Warrior legs instead of Lychguard legs. He looks less like a warrior and more like a support character then the destruction one. If I do any more for this army they will follow this style I think.

Destruction Cryptek Complete!

Just a quick update. I managed to finish my first Cryptek.  All the Royal Court models I am doing for this army are converted by mixing the Immortals Plastic Boxsets left over bits and a box of Lychguard. After my last round of Finecast models (well, literally ALL the ones I have purchased) I have made up my mind to never purchase another Finecast model ever again. From my experience they are grossly overpriced and to say the cast quality is sub par is an understatement. I mean, for $40 I am able to build 5 Crypteks/Lords while for $20 each I can get a poorly casted, very generic, one pose model in the form of Lords and the one Cryptek. No contest. Anyways, here is my first converted Cryptek. He has an Eldrict Lance which was made by making a dual headed Warscythe. His head is from the Deathmarks and he has a converted Torso made up from combining the Deathmark and Preatorian Torsos.

Triach Stalker Reshoot!

As promised here is a few pictures of the finished Stalker with pictures that were taken with an actual camera instead of my crappy iPhone 3GS with no flash lol. I also did some work finishing the base and I feel it adds that little punch of colour and visual interest the base was needing giving it that feel of being on a "Mars" type Desert. This is how I am going to finish the bases for the rest of the army.

Immortals Finished!

I did a bit more work over the last couple of weeks and I managed to get my 10 man Immortal squad finished. For me personally I wasn't really liking how the object source lighting was working so I have decided to drop it for now. The bottom pic I included to show the new style of painting the Immortals. Let me know what you think of the change.

Quick Update Time!

So as many of you have noticed there really haven’t been many updates in the last month or this year lol. The reason for it is (other than the baby lol) my camera died at the end of last month which means I haven’t been able to take any pics of the stuff I am working on. There is a silver lining though is my old camera was over 4 years old and only 7 mega pixels, which is sad as my phone is 8 lol, so when we DO get our new camera next week the pics should be a higher quality.

What I have been working on recently:

- Necrons, Necrons and more Necrons: In the last 4 weeks I have finished 25 Warriors, 10 Immortals, a Lord and my Triarch Stalker. With the Stalker I have also 100% finalized my basing style since you have last seen him which adds quite a bit of colour contrast and visual interest. This weekend I am going to finish the rest of my Royal Court (2 converted Crypteks and my Overlord) and either my Night Scythe or my Ghost Ark, haven’t really decided (probably the Night Scythe as the Ghost Ark is going to take FOREVER).

- Something New: My friend Matt and I picked up the Warmachine starter set to try out. I put together both factions and I will be doing a basic “speed painting” paint job on them. I am just going to do clean, basic colours with a wash and one level of high lighting. I am just doing them up as our clubs “starter” armies till we get the hang of the game. After that I am going to do a small force of Trolls and really go all out. I am treating them as a Necromunda Gang or something similar. This is something I am really excited about as it will be a completely different painting style then what I am used to. Another thing that I find very exciting is the fact that the force will consist of only 10-15 models and it has been a long time since I have really pushed myself as far as painting goes. I think the last time I went all out on some models was a couple years ago when I painted up The Sanguinor and Mephiston so it will be nice to see what I can do now.

- Into the Future: There are a lot of things coming up over the rest of the year which is going to put a damper on blog updates sadly. The main one is my wife and I bought a house which is currently being built and should be done in November. So from Mid October to Mid December will be slow. The big bonus of moving into the new house though is I will be making a light box and getting a tripod for the camera so the pics will be much better. I am also getting an Air Brush which I want to get good with before I redo my Eldar so there will be lots of test pics as I learn. I will also be finishing that Ymgarl article at some point when things in my life calm down (I have almost zero hobby time right now so I have to be selective of what I am working on hence why it isn’t finished yet).

If there is anything you guys want to see more of or in regards to hobby articles or tactics articles let me know. I have been thinking of doing some articles on how I painted my most recent armies (DE and Necrons) as well as how I painted my Tyranids (check this out to tide you over: http://legiominimus.blogspot.ca/2009/06/genestealer-painting-tutorial.html ). Thanks again for your patience and hopefully soon things will be back to normal
