Green Stuff Experiment

Ok, so I had a couple of Tallarn heavy weapon crew sitting around doing nothing, and Tallarn don't have some things that IG take for granted, like Demolition Teams and Flamer units. I have therefore ordered some flamers on eBay to convert some lucky guardsmen (if I can find more on eBay. Since IG is popular right now, its too hard to get 'em), and I think they arrived in the mail today. However, until then, my first ever experiment with greenstuff was to give these two guys high explosives that they can lob a whole 6" towards the enemy. That's right, with BS 3, these guys are almost as likely to throw the explosive BEHIND them then they are to get it on target! Good times however, and I think they came out not bad. I'll post more when they are painted. to make it more obvious will probably put stuff like DANGER or TNT on their satchels...

Always nice to see someone trying out GS. This is good stuff for a first work and I hope you don't mind constructive feedback.

I'm not a fan of the guy on the right. I prefer defining items at the base sculpt rather than relying on painting. The edges just round or much into the torso and it doesn't stand out. You might try adding another layer of GS and then using the side of the knife to draw out your edges. There's also something in the positioning... it just doesn't look natural to be held up like that, especially for something whose rounded shape implies a sack or bag.

The one on the left conveys the demo charge idea quite well. The pose flows quite well and the charge is obviously not just a tool kit. I'd still go back and add another layer to define the edges and cover up the tool marks, but it isn't critical.

Do you have a sculpting tool for burnishing out tool marks and finger prints?

Cheers and hope that was useful...

Thanks a lot for the comments!
Yeah, the guy on the right is really a heavy bolter guy carrying the magazine in his shoulder, but I couldn't use him anywhere else.. I do have another heavy bolter crew guy, so he could make the third dem squad guy. Also thanks for the tips! Definitely have to come up with definition for a bag/satchel..
