Space Sharks!

Time for another guest post by Mr.Ryan Szolopiak. We were chatting about different armies and we got on the topic of space marines. He started linking me his space marine army the "Space Sharks". I just loved the colour scheme and overall look of the army. He also has an amazing display board that goes with it. The craziest thing is he painted the entire 1500pts army in a MONTH! My Nids are sitting at 2 years (just over 4000pts though) and my DE are at 4 months and have less then 1000pts and no display board.

He finally got a new camera and will be sending me some pics of the rest of his Tyranid army including his Golden Demon winning Trygon. Should be pretty sweet! I am also working on finishing off my Tyranids. Right now I am converting up a unit of 10 ymgarls (going to post some pics of the test model soon) and 20 Gargoyles.

Mephiston!

Here is a commission piece I did for a friend of mine. It is Mephiston for the Lamentors space marine army (basically blood angels). This I think is the best overall miniature I have ever painted and the sad thing is the pictures really dont do it justice. Ah well. Enjoy!

And now for something completely different...

I have been working like crazy updating my Tyranid list, basically adding all the new stuff I was too stubborn to add before. With that project almost done (there will be some pics of the new Mawloc and Venomthropes up in the next couple weeks) I have decided that it was time to start a new army. A big part of me wants to start the orks that I have been trying to start for almost 4 years now. The big problem with that is it is ANOTHER horde army…and since both my Ulthwe Eldar and Tyranids typically run over 70 models each (actually, come to think of it so does my Space Marine army) I wanted to do something different…much different.

So I have decided to do a “Descent of Angels” blood angel army based on a super elite deep striking force made up of some of the best plastic models GW has produced, the Sanguinary Guard. Basically I want a small army that will be both really fun to play and paint that will be different to anything I have currently, and this will fit the bill. So here is the list:

HQ
Dante (makes Sanguinary Guard troops)
225

Sanquinar
275

Elites

Sanguinary Priests (2) – Jump Packs

150
Troops
Sanguinary Guard (5) – Inferno Pistol, Power Fist, Chapter Banner
250

Sanguinary Guard (5) – Inferno Pistol x 2, Power Fist
230

Sanguinary Guard (5) – Inferno Pistol x 2, Power Fist
230

Sanguinary Guard (5) – Inferno Pistol x 2, Power Fist

230

Sanguinary Guard (5) – Inferno Pistol x 2, Power Fist
230

Fast Attack
Vanguard Veterans (5) – Power Sword, Sarge – Power Sword, Bolt Pistol
180pts

2000pts right on the nose

With the new Blood Angel codex every unit in my army will deepstrike, re-roll their reserve rolls and only scatter 1d6″ instead of 2d6″. I really like the fact that there are only 34 models in the entire army and every single one is very good on their own. I *love* the new Sanguinar model and regardless of what he does…but luckily he is a complete independant character destroyer as well as anything else he might want to mess with. One other nice thing about him is he upgrades the lone vet sarge I have in this list so he gets +1 WS, +1 W, +1 Init and +1 A, which is close to a mini captain. Another nice thing is Dante and his unit never scatter (he will be with the banner and a sang priest) so you can always place him beside something that needs to gets blown up.

My main goal with this army is to push myself artistically. With only 34 models I think I can do this while completing this army in a reasonable fashion. So far I am thinking white armor for the Guard/Characters and the standard red for the vet squad. For the bases I am going to try and make it look like they are in some sort of ruined cathedral with yellow-ish brick to contrast with the black and white of the rest of the army. I am going to do a test run on some marines that I currently own and once I finish these I will post them.

Imperial Fists test model

Hello all,

Here is my first attempt at painting yellow and creating a new Space Marine Army. The fluff for the army is that it is a Heresy era army that would have been defending a section of the Imperial Palace against Horus' traitors. I'm using the latest edition of Power Armour (Mk VII) as 60,000 sets were grabbed the Imperial Fists during their raid on Mars (from Mechanicum). Comments and suggestions welcome.

History of Space Marines from GD Toronto 09

As part of GD Toronto they had a tribute to the history of the space marine. This is a collection of the pictures that I took from that exhibit. I will be posting pictures of the Golden Demon Entries soon!

MiniMan's Conflict Calgary 2006 Army

Hi All,

This is the last of MiniMan's armies from Conflicts. This is his Space Marine Army from Conflict Calgary 2006. The basis for the army is very similar to that from his Conflict Toronto 2005 but with some key changes. Enjoy!!

MiniMan's Conflict Toronto 2005 Army part 2

Hey all,

If you think this is a continuation of the last article, I'm sorry to disappoint. In 2005 GW Canada moved towards having a gaming season where peoples performance could win them a spot in the GT. As such they had to start somewhere and it meant having 2 Conflict Torontos. This is MiniMan's army from the second Conflict. Enjoy!!

Canadian Grand Tournament 2008

Hey all,

This past weekend I headed to the Battlebunker in Oakville ON to play in the Canadian GT 2008. I was playing my freshly painted Deathwing modeled after the original Deathwing from the short story. The Army is definitely a finesse one and a couple of times I made the mistake of letting a horde get to close without softening them up first. I will update with more pictures as I get them, hope you enjoy. I had a great time, thank you to all my opponents and travel companions for making it a great weekend!

Army List
HQ
Master of the Deathwing (Cloudrunner) with Storm bolter and MC Power sword
Librarian with Terminator armour, Storm bolter, Force weapon and Psychic hood

Troops
Deathwing Command Squad with Assault cannon, chain fist x1, apothecary and lighting claws x1
Deathwing Squad with Assault cannon, chain fist x1 and lighting claws x1
Deathwing Squad with Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields and Cyclone Missile launcher
3 x Deathwing Squads with Heavy Flamer and Lighting claws x1

Game 1 Deathwing vs Ray Shields' Tyrnaids
Table: City Fight
Msn: kill opponents general
End result: less than 50 pt difference = Tie
Comments: Great game that came down to the wire and literally the last turn. My army was not meant for taking on horde armies and this game was an example of me happening to hang around and score enough pts to get a tie.

Game 2 Deathwing vs Jay Pinhay's Orks
Table: City Fight
Msn: table quarters
End result: Massacre against (Oz'ed, like as in the prison show)
Comments: The game had escalation and I was able to kill 500 pts of his army in the first turn (everything on the board). The rest of his army showed up and 1200 pts of Orks killed my 1700 pts of Deathwing to a man and took all table quarters. I think if I had been a little more conservative I could have brought this to a tie but Orks in a city are hard to deal with.

Game 3 Deathwing vs Josh Steinhilder's Tyrnaids
Table: Water and Jungle
End result: Major victory for
Comments: Josh was playing a Steeler heavy force with a 2 shooty fex's, a shooty tyrant and a flying CC tyrant. By the end of the game he had one fex left and he was backing up as the Deathwing started to surround him.

Game 4 Deathwing vs Scott Wilson's Death Guard
Table: City Fight
End result: Massacre for
Comments: Scott's luck was dicey at best and left him in the 3rd turn to never return. Mine was retarded and I didn't fail a save (either type) from then on. Deathwing are very good at killing Death Guard.

Game 5 Deathwing vs Paul Nelson's Orks
Table: Open planes
End result: less than 100 pt difference tie
Comments: Paul's Army is amazing and he won best presentation for it. Both Paul and I played the character of our armies and it made for an awesome amount of CC throughout the game. Kudos go to his Stormboyz nob who killed my Librarian in CC.

Overall I had a great time and met a bunch of new gamers including Yoshi, who ended up winning best overall. I needed up placing 15 out of 32 and learn a lot of valuable lessons about how to play an all terminator army.

Deathwing Assault

Hello all,

I have started a new army. I am about a 1/3 of the way through painting an all terminator Deathwing army. My inspiration was the original story Deathwing or 'tale of two heads talking' where 30 terminators, wearing the jet black armour, of the Dark Angels return to their home to find it destroyed by a crashed space hulk. The 30 of them paint their armour white as was the custom of their Native American Indian like tribes, signifying making peace over their death, and attack the newly industrialized and enslaved population and more importantly their Genestealer masters. Only 5 of the terminators survive and they teach the population the old ways thus saving their planet. The Deathwing still paints it's armour bone white in remembrance of the original 30's sacrifice. I will update with pictures as Squads and Characters are finished. So far I have played in two tournaments with them winning 5 out of 7 games and taking home best general in one of the tournaments. I'm intending on taking them to the Canadian Grand Tournament.

Assault Pack Lupus

I started playing 40k during Rogue Trader and when the first Codex came out for 2nd ed. I was sold and have had a Space Wolf army ever since. Although the wolves of Fenris have changed quite a bit over the years their appeal as space vikings is as strong as ever. I have managed to win best general at Montreal Conflict 2004, best overall at Montreal Conflict 2005, and best theme at Arena Montreal 2007. This is a list of what I currently have in my 1700 Hall of Hero's Tournament list.

Hq
Rune Priest with Frost Blade and bolt pistol

Wolf Priest with Crosius, bolt pistol and arcanum
Venerable Dreadnought with Assault cannon, Dread CCW, Storm bolter and extra armour
Elites
Dreadnought with twin-linked lascannon, Dread CCW, heavy flamer and extra armour

Scouts with 2 x power weapons, Meltagun lead by a Wolf guard with Power fist and bolt pistol
Troops
10 x Grey Hunters with Power weapon, Power fist, Meltagun in Rhino with extra armour

9 x Grey Hunters with Power weapon, Power fist, Meltagun in Rhino with extra armour
9 x Blood Claws with Power weapon, Power fist, Flamer in Rhino with extra armour
Fast Attack
Land Speeder Tornado with Assault Cannon and Heavy Bolter

Land Speeder Tornado with Multi-Melta and Heavy Flamer

Land Speeder Tornado with Multi-Melta and Heavy Flamer

Heavy Support
Whirlwind

I will normally deploy them so the Grey Hunter squads will lead the advance into the enemies flanks or accept their charge to then be counter charged by the Blood Claws. Each of the IC lead one of the 9 man squads. The Wolf Priest leading the Blood Claws, evaluating them, and the Rune Priest leads the Grey Hunters. The only force I have ever had a challenge beating is a Mech Eldar list, where hitting with the melta weapons is critical to success.
