So, I actually started working on this guy before I started the Mountain King, but naturally got derailed with the big tubby bastard. I am going to bounce between the two though as I really like both kits.
The big focus on the Wraithknight is to update my Eldar's paint scheme to something that matches where I am today as I started this army around 10-12 years ago. All the paints I used to paint the army no longer exist and the original style of the army is 100% outdated. So the first main change is almost no more inks. My original scheme I inked everything with the old GW inks mixing them with future floor wax which was a way to knock the grey down to make it look more black and do ultra dark shading on the white. With the Wraithknight I am just going to start everything at a darker colour then highlight my way up then do a bit of "clean up" shading here and there to get the clean lines and proper contrast.
I have only been working on the left leg just to nail down the new painting style before I move onto the rest of the model. So far I am really happy with the results and I think it will look really good once it's clean up and finished. The white is working way better then I was inking it even though its not finished as it needs the last layer of pure white. One thing you will notice is that there is no definition on "gems" on the feet. The reason for that is I am just speeding up that part of the painting process as I am just going to paint them black anyways so there is no point shading them. Another thing you will notice is that there is a slight departure from how I was doing the Wraithlord in regards to all the gems, i.e. I painted ALL of them lol. The reason for that is I have seen pics of completed Wraithknights where the painter in question has actually painted all possible gems on this model red and the overall effect is that he looks like he has chicken pox or something. So, with that in mind I am going to be way more selective on how I paint mine as I want them to give some visual interest being some of the only things that arent black or white.

Wraithknight WIP...Part 1!
I don't normally post work in progress shots, especially not shots of model building unless there is a major conversion but I just have to show this guy off. I remember seeing that the Wraithknight was coming out and just assuming it would be $100 Canadian just like like the Riptide so naturally I was outraged when I saw it would be $140. Now I finally get it as this kit is freaking MASSIVE lol. In pictures you just can't grasp the scale of this model when compared to everything else so I threw in one of the new Wraithguard and a Guardian on his base just to show off his size.
This is the Wraithknight at about 4 hours of work and at this point I still haven't touched his arms or his base. It took another hour to build his two Wraithcannon arms and I am hoping to start the base shortly as well. I am leaving him in pieces (legs, body, head both arms) until I get those pieces painted as he is just way too large to paint all in one shot without an airbrush. This weekend I will start painting him and I will take WIP pics and post them here.
I have also picked up a Crimson Hunter, Hemlock Wraithfighter, a box of Wraithguard and 3 Heavy Support Weapon Platforms. As I showed earlier I am also working to update the bases for this army and hope to finish off the rest of the guardians this week (sigh..another 18 to go of just Guardian Defenders plus another 11 Storm Guardians). Other then picking away at Warmachine here and there bringing my Ulthwe Eldar up to the standard of my other 3 main armies is going to be my priority until its finished. Should be fun! lol

Something Old, Something New...
Now that the new Eldar book is out the mass re-basing of my entire army has started. I am going to work my way through my basic foot troopers, then through everything else. The nice thing is I have already finished my flying stands for most of my skimmers as well as the flyers. I am also slowly updating the models in this army and doing my "revised" colour scheme mostly due to the fact that none of the paints I used to paint this army originally are still around so I had to change things up considerably. The main things I want to update now are my Wave Serpents as I straight up *hate* the old Forge World ones. I already have one of the new Serpents and I will be getting another one shortly.
So back to the re-basing! Here is a pic of the original Guardians from the 2005 Grand Tournament I attended in Montreal. As you can see they are still VERY 3rd ed with the Goblin Green bases *shudder*. *cant believe I did ALL my bases for all my original armies with Goblin Green. This army fared the best since all the others had Goblin Green gravel too lol (yes, including my Necromunda figs...sigh)*
And here is the pic of the first half being totally re-based with the new style.
The brown rims, grey rocks and the more subdued green/brown grass works considerably better in my eyes with the overall colour scheme of the army. I also really like the fact that with the addition of the "rocks" (just wood bark) I can really change up the heights of the different models which again adds a bit more visual interest. Once I get the Warlocks and weapon platforms finished I think they will look really good.
In addition to updating everything I have also managed to do some trading and I have picked up one of each of the new flyers (freaking LOVE the model, cant wait to paint them), a box of Wraithguard (again, fantastic figs) and I am hopefully getting a Wraithknight soon as well. Feels good to be finally giving this old army some TLC and updating it since it's been sitting in limbo since 2009 when they participated in their last tournament.
Up Next: It's all about Eldar and Trolls. Working on both more or less at the same time but due to the excited of actually having a playable Eldar army again they will probably get the edge lol. I also wanted to talk about my thoughts (NOT a "review") of the book in regards to how it works with a themed Ulthwe Army. Good times!

Eldar Phoenix Bomber...Complete!
So in my last few posts I have been mentioning doing a larger project for my Eldar and this is the first model for that project.
A couple months ago I was talking to my friend Jon, shooting the shit about warhammer like we always do, and we started talking about his Forgeworld Eldar Corsair army. It's an army I have always wanted to do as I love the figs and the idea behind them, plus you can use Eldar/Dark Eldar as part of the list. So after some wheeling and dealing he ended up selling me his Corsairs.
Now that I have the figs (1 xPhoenix Bomber, 2 x Nightwing Fighters, roughly 20 corsairs, 3 Wasp Warwalkers and a few other bits and pieces) I started trying to figure out how I wanted to go about painting them. They have a bunch of fantastic colour schemes in the Doom of Mymeara book. I also was seriously thinking about painting them like my DE so I could use them as one army. Then after looking at what I owned for all my armies I had a bit of a brain wave. Since the Corsairs are 100% Guardian based I decided I will paint them like my Ulthwe and use them as "Black Guardians" since they are all BS 4. So, the Phoenix being my favorite model of the bunch was just calling my name so I had to paint it first.
One nice thing about getting the Forgeworld flyers from my friend Jon is he had a great idea on how to attach them to their bases (since they came out before the current flying stand). He used a whole bunch of magnets and attached them to the flying stand and the flyer itself. It's amazing how steady it is on the stand and how easy the whole thing is to transport.
Next up: I am working on finishing some stuff for some friends (Warmachine Starter Set) as well as finishing the 4 Dark Reapers for my updated Reaper Squad. I am also finishing doing some touch up work on the Nightwings (basically switching out their Bright Lances for plastic ones as they look way better and aren't bent to shit lol). I am also going to start rebasing the entire army so it looks like the flying stand for my Phoenix. Lots of stuff!

Dark Reaper Exarch....Complete!
Basically, for all my Aspect Warriors for my Ulthwe army I didnt want to do the usual colours for them (ie orange for Fire Dragons, Blue for Dire Avengers, etc.). Instead I wanted to incorporate them into the Ulthwe Colour scheme, changing things up slightly so they are still unique while still having
a combination of White, Red and Black. So here is the "Ulthwe" take on the Dark Reapers:
Next Up: I am almost done the rest of this guy's squad so hopefully I will be able to post pics of that soon. I am also working on the Warmachine Starter set (speed painting, so they look *okay* lol) and a special large Eldar project I am really excited about which will hopefully be finished shortly as well.

Eldar Wraithlord Complete!
As I mentioned yesterday I have been altering what I have been painting to help keep things fresh. I have really been enjoying working on my Eldar lately and have a bunch of new stuff for them in the works.
The first main thing I wanted to finish was this Wraithlord who has been sitting in stages of completion for AGES lol. I finally hunkered down while my wife and son were on holiday and finished him. This is the first part in a big Ulthwe update that I want to complete before the rumored Eldar Codex which is supposed to be out this year (just want to have to work on new stuff).

Vypers...Revamped!
The great Eldar revamp continues. It was slow again at work this weekend so I spent some time fixing up my Vypers and started work on my Wraithlord (will have him done soon). Below I have a pic of the original Vyper that was painted up for my old Ulthwe Strike Force list (it was BS 4 and had a crystal targeting matrix, hence the bright lance).
And here are the two Jetbikes with an added underslung Shuriken Cannon and new style Cannon for the turret as well as the new flying bases.
Up Next: A full army shot of the Necrons and I will also be talking about my experiences with the army so far!

Keeping Busy...
Over the last couple weeks I have just been plugging away at some current projects. The number one thing I am working on right now is the mega Eldar revamp to update them to 6th ed. I added a new unit of Dark Reapers to replace the 3rd ed ones I have. This way I get much nicer figs and an Exarch that is armed with a Tempest Launcher, which is huge. I also updated my Vypers to have 2 Shuriken Cannons each as they greatly benefit from the new 6th ed Fast Skimmer Rules. After that its mostly re-basing and adding one or two new models. Here is a quick pick of the conversions for the under-slung Shuriken Cannons and the new flying bases:
For the second project my friend Matt and I also picked up the Warmachine 2 Player Starter set just to try something new. So, in between projects I have been plugging away at the starter figs. The first thing I noticed when I started putting these together and painting them is that they are NOT Games Workshop miniatures. They have a fraction of the detail and leave much lacking in the form department. With that being said the more I work on them (also have some Trolls which are significantly nicer then any of the Warmachine figs) the more they grow on me. I have really started liking the super goofy cartoony look. Really nice change of pace from 40k both in rules and miniatures. I am going to treat this game like one would for Necromunda or Blood Bowl. Just a small faction of 20 models painted to a super high level (for the Trolls). For this starter set though I am just doing very basic painting. For this guy its just one level of high lighting. Super basic.

War Walkers...Finished!
After recently completing my new Necron Army I was somewhat at a loss as what to do next. I spent about a week looking over the Chaos codex when I came into the same issue I do when I look at the regular Marine codex...I have no idea how to build an army with this book lol. I look over the units, I can see a couple units I would like to have but the idea of making a coherent list just baffles me.
So, seeing as there are no other armies out that even remotely interest me I decided to look back at the remaining projects I have still left on my table. I know I want to do a slight revamp for the Dark Eldar to bring them into 6th but adding Eldar allies and a defense line. I also was looking at the Eldar codex and noticed it actually isn't looking too bad with the changes to 6th. After realizing that I decided to take a look at what I needed to do to update the army as I haven't played it in 3 years and the needed changes are surprisingly little.
My War Walkers have been one project that has been staring me in the face for the last 3 years. I originally had them armed for 3rd edition so they had Star Cannons (back when they were 3 shots each) and a Scatter Laser (back when they were D6 shots each). After "Octocon 2009" I realized just how shitty that combo was as my Scatter Lasers did all the damage with the massive volume of shots and my Star Cannons were just a waste. So I spent the weekend updating the weapons, re-basing the squad and finally finishing the last model in the unit. Overall a very productive weekend lol.
Up Next: After redoing these guys and realizing just how expensive this hobby has gotten it got me thinking about the idea of what one needs to do to revamp their older armies to get them ready for the newest addition and why, for many people, this is a great direction to go instead of starting fresh, which is something I have always done.

Jet Bikes!
Lately all I have wanted to do is finish painting everything I own for my two main armies, Tyranids and Eldar. So, now that I have so little to paint for the nids (just the Tervigon and some termagants he will poop out) I figured I might as well really start in on the Eldar.
I have had these guys built for about 4 years now, just sitting in a plastic bag in my eldar box, so I figured it was time to get them finished. Overall I am pleased with how they turned out, although you can tell I spent my time on the bike itself and somewhat rushed the guardians riding them. The last couple of things I am going to paint up for these guys are:
- One more Scatter Laser Warwalker
- 4 more Scatter Lasers (2 to replace the two star cannons on my warwalkers and two to replace the star cannons on the vypers)
- 10 Dire Avengers. Going to go Power Sword, Shimmer shield with defend on these guys, that way I have more tactical flexibility
- Wraith Lord (new plastic one) with a Bright Lance, Missile Launcher
- Wave Serpent with twin linked Shuriken Cannons
Looks like a lot, but it really isnt too bad. I will post more as they come along :)

PS. Also, watch out here within the next month for some Dark Eldar previews of my new army as I am going to be dropping everything once they are released. The plan is to push what I started with the Tyranids in regards to their bases tell a story and move that into the modelling of the army itself. The army is going to be based on a small Dark Eldar warband assaulting a small Imperial Guard outpost. Should be fun! I will post some test models near the end of October along with some finished bases for the new army :)

Fire Dragons
I have been doing a bunch of updating of my two main armies lately, namely my eldar and my Tyranids. It was really slow at work this (again..sigh) so I decided it was time to get off my butt and finally finish my Fire Dragons. With these guys I did a lot with the new washes, especially on the red. Overall I am quite pleased with how these guys turned out.

Beil Tan Eldar...
Now that I have finished (for now :) my Tyranids I wanted to try something new, specifically new techniques for painting. My current Ulthwe Eldar army is around 6 years old. Since I started painting it GW has come out with completely new ranges of paints. One thing I noticed after doing my last tournament is not many people noticed my Eldar army since they were so dark. It is very hard to pick up on how much high lighting/design work went into them. I want to do a bright Eldar army for 5th ed and I have decided on doing a Beil Tan army as my next army using new techniques and the new paints.
This is my Fire Dragon test model. I used mostly foundation paints and ALOT of washes. I am trying high lighting to an extreme, then going back over with one of the new GW washes to dull it down, then going back and doing some small touch ups to bring the high lights back. I think it worked really well for the orange and yellow of this guy and helps give both colours some more definition without having to do many more layers. As I practice with this technique my models will get cleaner as I feel this one is still a bit sloppy for my liking. I also was wracking my brains figuring out how I can tie in the Beil Tan colour scheme of green and white with the multi colour and I think what I did for this guy worked out well. I am also going to have dire avengers and their Helmets will be White with Green and Back on the back of them and some green on the white tabbards. The banshees I am just going to do in the regular Banshee colour scheme since it IS Beil Tan. The last thing I am trying to figure out is exactly how I want to do the bases.

Octocon 4! Revenge of the Medicore ELDAR!
Octocon 4
I have been living in Calgary, Alberta for almost 4 years now. Ever since GW Canada removed the Conflict Tournaments I have to say there isnt much of a tournament scene here. So I was delighted to see that there would be 3 tournaments in 3 months this fall! I already finished the first tournament called "September Salvo", which my 'Nids did splendidly and I squeaked out first place.
Next up is Octocon 4, which is one of Calgary's largest tournaments and is generally run each year. This year had a great turn out (26 for 40k, and 18 for Fantasy). The tournament is 2000pts and since my Tyranids are no where near finished and I wouldnt be caught dead playing either my Dark Eldar or Space Marines I ended up going with my Eldar. After checking out what I own I realized that my army is very outdated. When I painted my army it was in the middle of 3rd Ed using the old Craftworld Rules (ie. real seer councils and black guardians) so my current list is filled with too many warlocks, farseers and guardians. This is what I ended up taking:
HQ:
Farseer
Yriel
Elites:
9 Howling Banshees + Exarch
Wave Serpent w/ Bright Lances
Troops:
3 x 10 Guardians w/ Scatter Laser and Warlock
10 Storm Guardians w/ 2xFlamers and Warlock
Wave Serpent w/ Eldar Missile Launcher
9 Dire Avengers + Exarch
Fast Attack
2x Vyper Jetbikes w/ Star Cannons
Heavy Support
Wraith Lord w/ Bright Lance
2 Warwalkers w/ Scatter Lasers/Star Cannons
Falcon Grav Tank w/ Scatter Laser, Shurkien Cannon and Holo Fields

Round 1 - Annihilation vs. Imerpial Guard
I have only played Guard maybe twice in the last 12 years, so I figured it was a good time to get re-educated on what the army actually does. Needless to say that it has changed ALOT since the last time I played it lol. I figured that since he had all tanks, 2 Flyers and a crazy amount of anti Armor weaponry it would be a good idea to hold my entire army in reserve so it wouldnt get shot up on the first turn. This is a new tatic I wanted to try for this army anyways since I have Yriel, who is an Autarch, and he gives me +1 to all my reserve rolls. What I DIDNT know is that the guard have a unit that gives me -1 to my reserve rolls and makes me re-roll which edge my outflankers come on (which greatly changed the game) as well as allow him to re-roll which edge his stuff comes out on. We find out that the mission we are playing is basically a straight anhilation using opposite table Quarters as set up.
High Points:
- Watching him shoot almost everything into my Falcon multiple turns and only accomplish blowing off two guns.
- Having my Wraithlord flip his outflanking Demolisher on the second turn of the game.
- My Banshees and Dire Avengers came in right as my side of the table was about to be overrun by veterans. The Avengers took out one squad, while the banshees minced the other
Low Points
- Some crazy bad reserve rolls. My farseer and banshees didnt come onto the table until turn 4, which meant I was only able to use 1 psychic power the entire game lol
- Having Yriel (who is LD 10) fail a Pinning test (he and the remainder of the guardian squad)
- One of my guardian units rolled "double 1's" for their difficult terrain test when coming in from reserve RIGHT in front of a hell hound. Needless to say that squad was gone pretty freaking fast lol
Final Result:
The game is an exact tie. Both sides do 8 kill points, and based on the tourneys mission you then go to victory points. We add everything up and Wes got 576 on me and I get 575 on him. So I freaking lost by 1 VP LOL. All in all it was a great game and Wes was a fantastic person to play against. Great way to start the tourney.

My second game was against Marines. Based on what he had I felt fairly confident that I would do well, as the only plain old marines he had were an assault squad with a chaplain and a commander, a unit in a rhino, a unit with a razorback and a large unit of scouts that go with the techmarine. I figured since he had so much anti armor weaponry I would hold all my armor in reserve.
High Points:
- Some of the most insane luck ever when rolling for cover saves. I swear I made about 90% of the 4+ cover saves I was called onto make
- Yriel Finally gets into combat and almost single handedly kills an entire scout squad
- My banshees did 11 power weapon wounds in one turn (because of doom...which is GOD lol) to a tactical squad that was holding an objective
Low Points:
- Except for cover saves I just couldnt get a roll to go for me the entire game. At one point I had 2xBright lances, Missile Launcher, Star Cannon (into rear armor)and a Scatter Laser followed by 5 Str 9 attacks and 3 Str 5 attacks in hand to hand combat on a Rhino and only manage to blow off the storm bolter...sigh
- I made some bad descions through out the game. There were 3 or 4 things I really should of done differently both in regards to set up and what I did with certain units in the game. The main thing I did wrong was not focus on the objective as much as I should of.
Final Result:
Another tie (we both held one objective). We add up victory points and he does 100 more then me, so it is counted again as an exact tie. All in all he wasnt a terribly fun person to play against. I tried livening it up here and there but alas to no avail. I would say this was my least fav game of the tourney. Main thing I learned is to 100% keep your eye on the objective. The only reason why I lost is I forgot about it.

After forgetting the objective completely in the previous game I vowed to make it my only focus. I found out that my opponent had a 10 man nob squad w/ a painboy AND a 5 man mega nobz squad with a mad dok special character (so both units have a 5+ invuln save and feel no pain). As we read over the scenario I started wracking my brains on how on earth I was going to deal with those two units.
High Points:
- My play in general. This was by far my best played game. I really focused on the objective, I set up "bait" units and all my specialist units were used for exactly what they should of been. Everything was set up as well as I could of and I never lost focus on the objective.
- There were many really funny moments during the game. My two favs were watching the Storm Boyz unit deviate away from my army on the the turn they deepstriked in only to be bladestormed TO DEATH the following turn. My second fav was watching MY ENTIRE ARMY shoot at 3 guys, 2 turns in a row only to have the remaining two (one wound each) heavy flamer, then charge my unit of dire avengers. The visual of watching these two complete loons in mega armor with a million little disks sticking out of their armor/faces emerge from a cloud of smoke where their unit was and come in and mulch some puny eldar was great.
Low Points:
- Everything went according to plan. I felt bad that Ian rolled quite terribly in the first half of the game on his 500pts+ Nob squad (couldnt by a feel no pain roll) which allowed me to eventually break the squad and help march them off the board. He eventually made up for it with his Mega Nobs though as I mentioned in the "high points"
Final Result:
A complete Massacre. I held both objectives at the end of the game and all he had left was a Deff Dred. It was a really fun game and he was a really good sport about it. We spent about 5 mins after the game laughing about his energizer bunny mega nobz and how they wouldnt quit till they tasted Eldar blood.

Nathan had a monstrous tyranid army. He had 4 units of 24 Termigants with "Without Number" and two Hive Tyrants with 3 Tyrant Guard each (so 10 Toughness 6 wounds each with a 3+ min armor save). This is the first game in the tournament where I thanked my lucky stars that I brought as many Star Cannons as I did, because if I didnt have them, this game would of been a massacre. Nathan was my fav player at the tournament, and this was by far my fav game. The only sucky thing was time was really running out at this point and I was focusing on getting through the game instead of taking pictures, so alas there arent any (which is a shame, since his army looked fairly nice).
High Points:
- For the first time this tournament I used Yriels electicity storm, which was just devestating. In one round of combat he killed 23 Termigaunts LOL (12 with the first shot, then 11 on the overkill). The best part was there was one gaunt left, so he remained in Hand to hand and couldnt be shot at, which was good because there were 3 Zoanthropes just itching to bast him into next year.
- My banshees managed to killed 9 Tyranid warriors in hand to hand with only taking one casualty
- My 10 Storm Guardians managed to kill a unit of 24 termigants in hand to hand by themselves. If they handnt be charged by a SECOND unit of 24 they would of made it till the end of the game lol
Low Points:
- Having no concept of just how good 2xTwin Linked Devourers on a hive tyrant really are. I was losing a squad of guardians A TURN to this thing. Ugh. Luckily I was able to bring them down before the caused too much death to my forces
Final Result:
I ended up winning the game. This game really could of gone either way for me I have to say. For starters the game started with Dawn of War set up, and I won the roll to go first. I was able to pin most of his forces back in his zone, and only two units of Termigaunts and his Devourer Tyrant were on the board. Everything else had to walk on. That way I was able to focus on that tyrant, then switch targets to his other tyrant who had a venom cannon. If they both started on the table the game would of been very different. The last couple of combats also really changed the outcome of the game. My Banshees/Farseer were able to make 2 key leadership tests at the end of the game. If they failed either that was 2 VPs for Nathan and he would of won. The game was really back and forth also, which made for a great end to the day.
Tournament Results:
I came in 6th overall. I seemed to come in 2nd or 3rd in almost every category lol. I was really hoping to win best painted, but another Eldar army won. It was nicely painted and bright, which I think gave it the edge. I managed to do very very well in the one spot I typically come in the middle of the pack, and that is sportsmanship. I got 41 out of 40 (10pts per game) and was voted fav opponent by someone. I had a really good time, and I am already looking forward to the next one. Below is a shot of the armies that were nominated for best painted. The Eldar army on the far left won.
1) Regular Guardians are possibly the single worst unit in the game. With only 12" guns, T3 and a 5+ armor save they are good for only one thing...giving up VPs. My Storm Guardians on the other hand were amazing, and did something pretty much every game.
2) Mech Mech Mech. Vehicles are king, as well as having the ability to blow them up. I seriously lacked in both departments, especially playing Eldar. As I work on this army I am going to phase out all my footslogging guardians and add more dire avengers with Wave Serpents. I am also going to paint up a second Falcon because even though it got shot at ALOT every game, it only died in one of them. In each of those falcons I am going to put 6 fire dragons.
3) Remove all star cannons for scatter lasers...ESPECIALLY on the war walkers lol.
4) Yriel is god. He managed to live through every game and was just a destroyer when he got into combat. I...love....this...character lol.

Eldar Update # 3 - The Falcon
My army is surprising light on battle tanks, and with the release of 5th Ed the game has 100% become "all about the armor and mobilty". I am slowly working in more tanks and this is the 1st of 2 Falcons I will be doing. I also need to do up another Wave Serpent. The only issue with that is I have been using the forge world conversion kits and I dont want to use the new plastic ones because it will break the cohesive look to the army.

Eldar Update #2 - Yriel
When I first made this army it was all about the Seer Council being its lynch pin. This was due to the fact that the only other HQ choice was the Avatar and he pretty much sucked lol. Now with the new book this fancy fellow has been added and he is a freaking beast, plus the figure looks cool :). The only sucky thing with this guy was that I found his spear was broken AFTER I started putting him together, so I had to use a spare Dire Avenger Exarch spear as a replacement.

Eldar Update #1
I havent really done anything for my Eldar in a long while, so I figured it was time for an update. Since I painted the first wave of this army the game has changed considerably, and because of that the playstyle for the army list has changed considerably. This update is for my squad of Dire Avengers who seem to be replacing Guardians in every way...mostly because they are far better in every way lol.
