Here are the next batch of Minion Solos for my Epic Borka army. It was really nice taking a small break from Trolls to paint something different. I really enjoyed painting these guys, especially Brun as Lug (the bear) was just fur and metal. I think doing an entire Dwarf army would be super cool lol. All that is left for this army is painting 5 Long Riders and its done! After that it will be time to finish off my second 50pts list so I can finally start playing in tournaments.

Lanyssa Complete!
Still plugging away at my two tournament lists for the Trolls. For my heavy armor list I have a few "Minion" solos (both for looks and because of what they do for the army overall). The first Minion is an elf named Lanyssa. She adds a bunch of utility to the list plus I thought the model looked really cool. The last benefit to her is I can use her in either my Ret list (they are incredibly limited as to which Mercs/Minions they have access too) or my Trolls. Because of that I decided I would just paint her in my Retribution of Scyrah's colours but did the basing of the Trolls so she fits in either army.

Hnefatafl Board and Pieces Finally complete
So in my spare time at work, I've been making a Hnefatafl Board.
The pieces are 3D printed on a Makerbot, and then spray painted black and tan with a gloss overcoat.
The models of the pieces were taken from a 3D boardgame, although I'm afraid I forget which one. I think it was a chess set. I used the pawns, the king, and the knights..
The board is a 13x13" picture frame with a wooden base, cork mounted on the underside, and Home Depot stone bathroom 1" tiles as the squares. I put caulking round the edge to seal everything in.
It turned out quite well. Looking forward to playing. I love the game because of its asymmetrical nature.

Horthol Complete!
Now that Horthol is complete I have finally finished off all my Solos, Beasts and my Battle Engine. My main goal before was to finish each section one at a time (so all beasts, then all solos, etc) but now I think I am just going to start focusing on specific tournament lists which is why Horthol here is complete. First list I am focusing on is a "Bearka" (ie Epic Borka riding a bear) list. Has lots of beasts, lots of calv and a few support models. I am going to try to finish the rest of the support models for this list this weekend and after that its the Long Riders (calv) and my first 50pts tournament list is complete. Cant wait! Anyways, here he is!

Warders Competele!
Another weekend, another unit painted. Now that things have settled down at home (kids getting older, wife picking up hobbies) my painting schedule has really opened up from painting a morning or two every week to 4-5 days a week. Been making some real progress on my army the last two months and I have officially crossed the 50% completed threshold with the addition of these Warders.
Now that they are finished I really like how the unit looks. Actually working on them though was the definition of a real slog fest. Despite how much more (at this point) I like Warmachine/Hordes as a game system and how much the model ranges have grown on me one thing I will say is their current line of plastics is incredibly bad, like painfully bad. The detail is incredibly sub par and the mold lines are everywhere and always in the worst spots. They also have just slap-dash details everywhere over these models, most of which makes no sense and is just there to make them look busier than they are. One of my two main lists I am working on includes 2 units of these guys...but after building/painting them I dont know if I have it in my to do another unit lol. Ah well, onto more enjoyable models to paint!

Retribution of Scyrah...Take 2!
I keep going back and looking at my first couple of finished Retribution of Scyrah models and for some reason I was just not happy with them. The red isnt great to paint, I am not getting the shade of red I want and the OSL just dont work. In case you forgot the original scheme here it is:
I dont like the red on the base either, plus the cork on the base seems to be massively overdone these days. I also totally couldnt figure out how to do the Jacks as I think bright red jacks would look somewhat silly.
After going back to the drawing board I decided to go darker overall with the scheme. I know this sounds weird but I also wanted a scheme that required no mixing of paints. So I decided on the scheme shown on the Jack below.
I originally was going to just duplicate the scheme from the Dark Eldar (primarily dark green with black and red as the tertiary colour) but after seeing this Jack I really like the two tone green along with the white so I dont think I am going to add the red at all. Regardless, let me know what you think, good? Bad? Tips on how to improve? Open to anything.

Winter Troll Complete!
Since finishing 'Bearka' I have been working on Beasts for his battle group. One of the Beasts I thought would work well is a Winter Troll, problem was I didnt have one. So, in exchange for a wall section (like the one I did for Janissa) my friend Rob gave me one. I have to say this is one of the easiest models I have ever painted. From start to finish he took roughly an hour and a half. He is kind of a stupid figure (I think that is why Rob basically gave it to me). I always thought he looks like he is about to sing the opera or challenge someone to a dance off. Ah well, I guess he will have to bust out the mad beats on the field.

Mulg Complete!
For the longest time I more or less refused to use Mulg. He sounded pretty good but everyone used him, so I was going to focus on using models like the Mountain King or the EBDT instead (just to be different). Then I actually used Mulg...sigh, now I understand lol. To say he is the best beast/jack in the game is an understatement. The guy is just the destroyer of worlds. It's shocking just how much better than the Mountain King Mulg actually is and he is a whopping 8pts less! You basically cant even look at the Troll Warlock until you kill Mulg, it's crazy lol.
As for the paint job himself now that I am looking at the pics I definitely feel he is missing something. He is far too plain for my liking. I think I am going to go back over him, and anything with runes (so the Krielstone, Doomshapers staff, etc) and add in glowing ultra bright green runes. I think that will help give the visual interest those models are seriously lacking. Ah well, here he is for now.

Feralgeist Complete!
Here is the first ever minion I have painted. I needed to finish him for a tournament I did about 2 weeks ago. He was stupid easy to paint but I gotta say he just might be my least fave fig I have put together. For some insane reason instead of just making him a single piece or making it so you had to glue his arms into their sockets they made the break on the model RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF HIS BODY! It also just happened to be at the thinnest point of the entire model. Sigh, so dumb. Anyways, here he is.

Burrowers Complete!
Finally starting to knock out a few units for the Trolls. Most of what I have are solos, beasts and casters but the real body of work that needs to be done is on units (I have something like 50 models for my units ready to get painted). Here is the first block of those troops in the form of my burrowers.
